Our Mission:

To earn our clients’ trust is our most important objective. To achieve this, we will represent the best companies in our industry. We will provide all agency personnel with the training and tools available to give the very best possible service while adhering to the highest ethical and professional standards.

Our History:

October 1, 1984 Randy Myers in partnership with Leland Smith Insurance Agency started the Leland Smith Life and Health Company in Decatur, Indiana. The office initially marketed life and health insurance. Ten years later in October 1994 Randy opened an office in Van Wert on Westwood Drive doing business as Leland Smith Insurance Services. The new office sold auto, home, and business insurance as well as life and health. In 1996 Randy purchased 100% of the company and in 1998 all operations of the business were moved to the Van Wert location.

In January 2003 Leland Smith Insurance Services opened a branch office in Antwerp, Ohio under the management of Dan Fowler. Krista Schlemmer, Randy’s oldest daughter joined the agency as the finance manager and personal lines insurance in 2004. September 2008 the agency purchased the Shisler Insurance Agency in Paulding, Ohio from Randy’s cousin Nolan (Tucker) Shisler. Mike Menzel joined the agency in March of 2008 as manager of the Shisler office. January 1, 2013 the Kulwicki-Hilton Insurance Agency in Convoy joined the Leland Smith family, as well as Hickey-Morris Insurance in March of 2016. We currently operate 6 locations with 17 full time and 2 part time employees. The accounting firm of J Richard Sealscott is also located in the Van Wert office.
